Our goal is to highlight your stories on Duke Today while also driving to unit and school sites. To do this, we need a summary version of a story to live on Duke Today. Below outlines steps to achieve that.

Process Form–>Approval–>Summary–>Edits–>Signoff

  1. Before writing a summary or requesting a summary to be written, please fill out the form pitching your story.
  2. Once it has been approved, please provide a summary, or we will write one.
  3. Ensure a link to your original story is provided and link anything that’s relevant.
  4. A Duke Communications & Marketing writer will be assigned a summary. However, if you would like to supply a summary, please provide one by agreed deadline for edits.
  5. Editorial staff will return edited summary for your approval and sign-off.
  6. If you need a researcher or someone else to approve, please provide them the edited version. At this point, the document should only be reviewed for accuracy and fact-checking, not re-writes or additional information. If there are major changes to be made, we can work through two rounds of edits.
  7. Please approve by deadline and return.

Suggestions

If you believe this story might be of particular interest to a wider audience, please let us know before you begin the actual story process. That way, we can collaborate on a social or media pitching plan together that would avoid duplicative efforts.
